John Playle

John Playle is an affiliate at Oxford Brookes University in which capacity he is Chief Moderator and Academic Conduct Officer for the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting, a collaborative programme with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) the largest global accounting body. This programme produces over 2,000 graduates each year. He is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, having qualified in 1970 and is also a fellow of the Association of International Accountants. He also has a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Oxford Brookes University.

John Playle has a long career going back over 50 years which began with a firm of auditors, progressed through many large companies (Philips Petroleum, McCorquodale, CWS, Dalgety) in senior and board level positions with responsibility for overseas operations in USA and throughout Europe.

Prior to joining Oxford Brookes University in 2004, he taught at Further Education Colleges for a few years. At Oxford Brookes, he was responsible for running the 2 largest compulsory modules in the Business School and teaching a wide range of subjects including financial accounting, management accounting, costing, taxation and corporate finance. He taught on and buddied many of these modules in the Oxford Brookes partner institutions in India, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Since taking retirement from full time lecturing in 2010, he has continued in his roles with the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting which also entails delivering workshops to students and mentors in UK, Republic of Ireland, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Kenya, Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. He also undertakes regular teaching at Estonian Business School and other places as an independent lecturer.
