There are two different study paths within this track:

There are two different “routes” within the track; while being admitted to the programme, the candidate can either apply for a research fellow position or study as an individual doctoral student. EBS also accepts visiting PhD students from similar focus areas.

Depending on the candidate's background, doctoral students with different focuses are welcome:

At the beginning of the doctoral studies, an individual study plan, in cooperation with the supervisor, is established based on the individual goals of the doctoral student.

Leaders of established enterprises and organisations:

Leaders who wish to develop and implement changes within their organisation, whether it involves a new business model or innovation based on the company’s needs and challenges.

Suitable for a candidate who:

Works as a manager, middle manager or senior specialist in the private or public sector.

Wishes to continue daily work in their organisation while focusing on solving a specific challenge through research and development activities.

Emerging entrepreneurs and start-up developers:

Initiators who explore, test, create and develop new or early-stage business models and start-ups.

Suitable for a candidate who:

Is a key person in a developing start-up or has a clear business idea.

Wishes to validate, develop and launch their idea on a solid research-based foundation, drawing on the knowledge, networks and resources gained during doctoral studies.

Tuition Fee:

Doctoral students enrolling as individual doctoral students have to pay a tuition fee. The tuition fee is €600/month (€7200/year), which provides PhD candidates with full and unlimited access to all EBS resources.
The tuition fee is payable either directly or through in-kind means (such as participation in teaching, involvement in external projects, involvement in spin-off companies etc.).
In addition, for the applied track, a separate pricing applies to the validation/acceleration module depending on the direction chosen by individual students.

The programme on applied and experimental research track, focuses on seeking to create a two-way interaction between business and academia within a comprehensive support ecosystem.

Pedagogical internship - 3 ECTS

Doctoral Thesis and related research - 180 ECTS             

Applied concept preparation/validation/testing/feedback or adaptation - 15 ECTS

The programme aims to establish a clear real-life goal or problem definition, which is then followed by practical implementation. As a business and management-focused programme, it emphasises the support of applied and experimental research. The doctoral candidate’s research is directly connected to understanding real business situations and organisational challenges, as well as developing innovative solutions grounded in research and development activities.
