Karmo Kroos is the Vice Rector for Research at EBS. He earned his doctoral degree cum laude (with honors) at Åbo Akademi University, specializing in the research methodology of social sciences. For his work, he was awarded the Best Research Paper Award by the American Sociological Association, making him one of the very few non-Americans to receive this honor.
He serves on the editorial board of the scientific journal Prometheus - Critical Studies in Innovation and is a member of the EBS Research Ethics Committee. In addition to teaching research methods to doctoral students, he assists colleagues in identifying and applying for local and European research grants, overseeing their implementation, ensuring quality control, and preparing institutional self-evaluation reports for external evaluators. To further his expertise, he has completed additional training at IESE Business School’s Faculty Development Programme and at the European Summer School for Scientometrics at the University of Vienna.
Karmo has previous project management experience in both the private sector (AS Eesti Telefon and OÜ BDG) and the public sector (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs). This background has given him a strong understanding of the private sector's pressures for efficiency and effectiveness, the public sector's need for transparency and accountability, and academia's pursuit of excellence.
