Mises Evenings at EBS: "Sweden: economic lessons for the world?"

18:15 - 21:30
EBS, room 411
sweden

The EBS Centre for Free Economic Thought cordially invites you to attend its first Mises Evenings live event in cooperation with the Mises Circle of Tallinn and special guests. Following the successful format of Mises Circle events, we will watch a documentary, follow it up with a lively debate and mingle with like-minded friends of the freedom movement. The event is open to Mises Circle members and the whole EBS community.

The topic of the night is the intriguing case of Sweden. Our prosperous Nordic neighbour is often touted as a wealthy socialist state, an example to follow toward prosperity and social justice. But is Sweden’s observable wealth a product of its socialist policies? Or could it be that its track record of free-market reforms has something to do with it? Is it a surprising socialist triumph or just another predictable success for free markets? What is really going on? What would Ludwig von Mises say about it? Socialist, capitalist, interventionist, or something else?

We will watch the thrilling documentary "Sweden: Lessons for America?" by the Swedish historian and social commentator Johan Norberg, who will connect with us online after the screening for some Q&A. We strive to discuss and learn together in a convivial atmosphere of free speech and open exchange of ideas.

Schedule:
18:15 – open doors, meet & greet
18:45 – welcome remarks by Juan Saenz-Diez
19:00 – projection of the documentary Sweden: Lessons for America?
20:00 – Q&A with Johan Norberg; open debate
21:30 – event ends
