EBS Celebrates the Year of the Estonian Book with the Exhibition "Estonian Book 500"

a
In 2025, we mark 500 years since the publication of the first book in the Estonian language – a historic milestone that has profoundly influenced Estonian culture and the development of our written language. To honour this significant anniversary, the Year of the Estonian Book will take place from 30 January 2025 to 14 March 2026, featuring a wide range of exhibitions, events, and initiatives that highlight the importance of books in shaping our national identity and cultural heritage.

The Year of the Estonian Book is guided by a central committee established in February 2024, with the Estonian Literary Society acting as the primary coordinator. The theme year is under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, who invites everyone to engage with the inspiring motto: "A nation begins with a book," a line from the beloved poet Hando Runnel.
