Three keynote speeches, a special session with three guest speakers, and approximately 87 presentations took place over two days in multiple parallel sessions. All focused on topics in the field of the economics of education, such as efficiency, teacher and classroom climate, student well-being, labour market outcomes, and institutional factors affecting achievement. Professor Kaire Põder was one of the three invited speakers; she gave a lecture on the experimental economics of school choice, presenting some of her ongoing work with Andre Veski (funded by the BRIDGE and PJKOHAD projects). Faisal Mohammed, a first-year PhD student, presented a working paper on educational governance, corruption, and student achievement, co-authored with Professor Kaire Põder and Assistant Professor Niveditha Prabakaran.
This was our researchers’ second visit to Leuven this semester. In February, Dr Kaire Põder, Dr Triin Lauri, Dr Niveditha Prabakaran and Faisal Mohammed attended the kick-off meeting of the EU Horizon project BRIDGE (Building Resilient Individuals through Effective Gradual Educational Transitions), which will run until January 2029. The aim of the project is to provide evidence-based policy recommendations to enhance participation and completion rates in upper secondary and tertiary education while promoting effective educational choice. Our consortium partners include KU Leuven, Politecnico di Milano, Maastricht University, Brunel University, and Schoolmakers. Participation in both meetings was made possible thanks to support from the European Union. Stay up to date.
