How did EBS High School reach the top of the rankings?

a
EBS High School has recently completed an extensive internal evaluation process, the results of which are reflected in the 2023 report. The internal evaluation covered the period from 2015 to 2023, focusing on various aspects of the school's operations, including management, resource management, collaboration with stakeholders, and teaching and educational processes. The goal of the evaluation was to identify the school's strengths and potential areas for improvement, ensuring conditions that support student development and the school's continuous growth.

Key strengths of EBS High School

The internal evaluation highlighted several strengths of EBS High Scool.
The school is known for its professional and motivated staff, where teachers highly value their autonomy and are committed to continuous professional development. The management has created an environment that supports teacher self-development and innovation, contributing to the school's strong reputation and students' excellent results.

The school's physical environment and modern digital tools are also significant strengths. The comprehensive renovation of school premises carried out in 2019 has increased both teacher and student satisfaction with the learning environment. The updating and adoption of digital tools have been successful, improving the effectiveness of teaching.

EBS High School's academic results remain strong

The school has consistently ranked among the top 20 high schools in Estonia based on national exam results.
In narrow mathematics, the school's average exam scores have consistently been around 70%, while the national average has been significantly lower. For instance, in the 2022/2023 academic year, the school's average score in narrow mathematics was 70.6%, compared to the national average of just 34.8% (even the most modest result at EBS High School exceeded the national average!).
In English, EBS High School students have achieved exceptionally high results – while a B1 level is typically required for a first foreign language, in 2022, 100% of the high school's students achieved at least a B2 level, with a significant portion reaching C1 or C2 levels.

The school's reputation has improved year by year, as evidenced by the increasing number of applicants and competition for student places

In the 2023/2024 academic year, the competition to enter EBS Gymnasium was 1:7, clearly indicating the growing interest in the school. Additionally, the number of students has increased, reaching 156 in the 2023/2024 academic year, 26 more than the set goal.

Areas for improvement in the coming years

The evaluation process also identified some areas with room for further development.
One of the main areas for improvement is enhancing teachers' digital skills and more effectively utilizing innovative teaching methods. The school also aims to promote the value of green thinking and sustainability in everyday school life. Furthermore, there is a need to strengthen collaboration with international partners and increase alumni engagement in school life. In the future, EBS High School plans to focus on supporting the mental health of teachers and students by offering more psychological support.
