We are pleased to announce an upcoming conference at EBS, dedicated to examining and celebrating the first year of President Javier Milei's administration in Argentina. This event will feature distinguished speakers from both Argentina and Estonia, including the ambassadors of both nations.
Since his inauguration on December 10, 2023, President Javier Milei has implemented significant economic reforms aimed at stabilizing Argentina's economy, inspired by liberal-libertarian ideas and the Austrian School of Economics. His fiscal austerity measures have already reduced public spending by approximately $20 billion, achieving a budget surplus for the first time since 2011. This involved downsizing government structures and laying off about 20% of federal employees. Monetary reforms pushed monthly inflation down from 25% in December 2023 to 2.2% in January 2025, marking the lowest level in four years, and most importantly, avoiding an impending hyperinflation and total collapse of the economy. Many other economic and deregulation measures are bringing the financial markets and international investors back to the battered economy, and with them, the hope for a new phase of prosperity and growth for the country.
This conference will provide an in-depth analysis of these developments, fostering dialogue on the impacts and future prospects of Argentina's policy shifts under President Milei's leadership. Esteemed speakers from Argentina and Estonia, including both nations' ambassadors, will share their insights, promoting a comprehensive understanding of the reforms and their global implications, specifically in relation to how Estonia is faring since starting its own liberal reform after the USSR and how both nations are building a special relationship across the world.
