On 20 February 2025, a ceremony dedicated to the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia took place in the auditorium of EBS. The event featured discussions on Estonia’s future, international politics, and responsible entrepreneurship.

The Changing Global Balance and Estonia’s Role
The keynote speech was delivered by renowned strategic communication expert and filmmaker Ilmar Raag, who addressed Estonia’s role in a changing world. Raag emphasised that in recent decades, the democratic world has been in retreat, while authoritarian regimes have been gaining strength. He pointed out that whereas a single superpower once dominated global affairs, the balance of power has now shifted, impacting Estonia and its international standing. Raag stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties with neighbouring countries such as Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland "Our strength lies in our alliances. If we can remain united, we have a real chance to defend our position," he highlighted.

Entrepreneurship and Responsibility
Another speaker at the ceremony was EBS Chancellor Mart Habakuk, a promoter of entrepreneurship and education. He linked the theme of freedom with responsibility and the conscientious EBS community. Habakuk underlined that Estonian entrepreneurs and future leaders must understand that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. He pointed out that business education in Estonia plays a key role in shaping entrepreneurial and responsible individuals. He also emphasised that a significant number of EBS graduates go on to establish their own businesses, contributing to Estonia’s economic development.

The Rector’s Address: Education and Social Responsibility
In his address, EBS Rector Meelis Kitsing highlighted the role of education in shaping society and preserving freedom. He remarked: "Academic freedom is inseparable from responsibility. Our task is to nurture leaders who do not think only about personal success but also about how their actions impact society as a whole." The rector stressed that responsibility and entrepreneurship are two key pillars that will help Estonia maintain its independence and prosperity, even in challenging global conditions.

Music and a Festive Atmosphere
The event featured a musical performance by violinist Daana, whose repertoire included both national melodies and contemporary compositions. In addition to well-known patriotic songs, Daana performed her own compositions and modern Estonian pieces, including Nublu’s hit song "Peagi saabun".

A Thought-Provoking and Unifying Event
To conclude the ceremony, guests were invited to engage in a collective discussion while enjoying traditional Estonian refreshments. Attendees agreed that the event provided both profound food for thought and a sense of unity, which is particularly significant in the lead-up to Estonia’s Independence Day.

Long live Estonia!
