This prestigious event, which can be viewed live on the Academy’s website, Facebook page (or via the Novaator portal), will conclude with up to five outstanding speakers being awarded.
While the Estonian-language version of the competition has successfully run for eight years, this year marks the debut of the English-language edition. The participating doctoral students are tasked with presenting their research in a way that is engaging and comprehensible to all audiences, regardless of their background or prior knowledge.
This year is particularly significant for Estonian Business School (EBS), as two of our doctoral students will be featured in the final: Samuli Johannes Saarinen, whose research focuses on “From Information to Price, in Time of Social Media,” and Mehruba Shabaab Haque, with her study on “Redefining Beauty for Young Girls in the Age of Social Media.” Both doctoral students highlight pressing societal issues and challenges, offering fresh perspectives and solutions through their research.
Ahead of the final, the participants have undergone comprehensive training sessions aimed at enhancing their presentation skills and developing their ability to communicate their research to a broader audience. Additionally, all finalists have had the opportunity to write a popular science article, which will be published on the Research in Estonia website.
The finalists represent a range of Estonian universities, including the University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Estonian Academy of Arts, and the Estonian University of Life Sciences. The participants come from diverse countries such as Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Georgia, Nigeria, and Finland.
For EBS, this is an excellent opportunity to support our doctoral students on the international stage, providing them with a platform to showcase their research while promoting the importance of scientific work in a broader societal context.
The competition, organised in collaboration with the Estonian Young Academy of Sciences, is supported by the Inclusive Financial Technology Foundation (InFTF) and the Estonian Research Council.
