What impact does the development of technology have on our energy consumption and have people's habits and behaviour changed forever in light of the energy crisis? Vytenis Koryzna, CEO of Enefit Lietuva, and Aleksandra Przegalinska, Associate Professor and Vice-Rector of Kozminski University, discuss this topic in the EBS Executive Education podcast. Vytenis Koryzna, CEO of Enefit Lietuva, notes that the issue is undoubtedly in focus - we have the goals set by the European Union for 2030, we have the Paris Agreement. The question is how we can meet these goals. “The main problem is CO2 emissions, 70% of which comes from the energy industry. The solution lies in this direction,“ says Koryzna.
According to him, the crisis in Ukraine has given impetus to the understanding that the logic of energy consumption, both at the level of companies and individuals, has completely and forever changed. "The European Union is taking the right steps. It's a matter of whether national governments can control the price," added Koryzna.
Siiri Mall Musten, “21 Century Leader “ head of Program and Learning Experience Design at EBS Executive Education, agrees that the time when we just switch on the light and pay the bill at the end of the month is over. The ability to consciously manage our own consumption becomes part of our lifestyle. People review their heating sources and ventilations and start monitoring consumption patterns to optimise energy consumption.
Aleksandra Przegalinska, Associate Professor and Vice-Rector of Kozminski University, believes that in the future we will rely more and more on artificial intelligence, in other words, algorithms. "Artificial intelligence allows us to predict the need for energy and optimise the use of energy," explains Przegalinska.
The solution lies in connecting sources of energy in a way that allows us to analyse consumption and patterns, this gives us data, which in turn, with the help of artificial intelligence, allows us to predict consumption and cost. "I will give an example from agriculture, where we can predict weather conditions with the help of artificial intelligence and, based on this, decide when and what to plant," said Przegalinska.
