Free Market Road Show visit to Tallinn, EBS

a
The Free Market Road Show, organised by the Austrian Economics Centre and the Hayek Institute in collaboration with EBS's Centre for Free Economic Thought, made its stop in Tallinn on a beautiful, warm afternoon. A good crowd gathered at the event, choosing it as the most valuable option over the rare sunny day outside! This year's event centred on Friedrich August von Hayek and his fundamental contributions to the social sciences and the understanding of liberty.

H.E., the Ambassador of Austria to Estonia, opened the event with welcome remarks that placed Friedrich Hayek in his historical context as an eminent "son of Austria". Our three distinguished international guests, Dr Gabriel Mursa, Dr Eamonn Butler, and Glen Hodgson, presented theoretical and practical aspects of Hayek's work, demonstrating the crucial reflections we must make in the current critical geopolitical and economic situation, all within the context of European politics. A special written message from Mart Laar was read aloud, in which he sent inspiring words about the value of liberty after slavery under socialism with a cautionary note on "ecosocialism". In Juan Sáenz-Diez's words, "We owe much of the freedom that we enjoy today in Estonia after the Soviet socialist regime to Mart Laar's vision and free-market policies."

After the lectures, a lively debate ensued, where the audience engaged the panel and each other with challenging questions, insightful answers, and friendly discussions.

At the end of the event, the book 'Tee pärisorjusesse karikatuurides' (in Estonian) was distributed to attendees (we have more, so do come and ask for your free copy!).

Finally, there was time for refreshments, networking, and further informal discussions among all participants.

It was an intense, enjoyable, and enlightening event, and we look forward to the next Free Market RoadShow visit as well as other Centre for Free Economic Thought events. Please contact cfet@ebs.ee to join our mailing list and stay tuned!
