The time-intensive groundwork phase of the Eedu Education and Business Campus building is nearing completion, and in just 15 months, it will be possible to walk on the 30th floor of the building. After that, approximately one year remains until the final completion of the structure.
At the signing of the construction contract, EBS Chancellor Mart Habakuk explained that within a few years, the capital city will gain a unique campus that will introduce a diverse environment for education, business, and living. "The campus will create various opportunities for studying, working, and leisure activities. The high-rise section of the Eedu Campus will serve a residential function. The design of the building takes into account that a significant proportion of future residents will be active entrepreneurs, investors, and top executives. The campus will offer numerous rental workspaces, collaboration areas, sports, recreation, and event spaces—places where experience and ambition can intersect, leading to the launch of new ambitious ventures," Habakuk added.
The construction work is being carried out by NOBE, a construction company with extensive experience in executing complex building solutions. According to Priit Nigols, NOBE’s Construction Director and Member of the Management Board, this is a challenging and extraordinary project involving the efforts of hundreds of people. “It sets new standards in architecture, energy efficiency, and space utilisation. Our goal is to build a high-quality and sustainable structure that fosters innovation and serves the Eedu community for decades,” Nigols explained. Under NOBE’s leadership, the underground floors and structural framework of the building are currently under construction on the site.
The new landmark rising in the city centre is unique in many ways. The building will feature three underground floors, making it both the deepest and one of the tallest residential buildings in Tallinn. Additionally, innovative construction methods such as climbing formwork will be used, enabling the faster and more efficient construction of high and complex structures compared to traditional methods.
The existing EBS academic building will be connected to the new structure via a gallery, making it an integral part of the Eedu Education and Business Campus. The university’s usable space will double, significantly enhancing collaboration and learning opportunities beyond traditional lecture halls.
The high-rise building’s 7th to 30th floors will accommodate up to 140 apartments, ranging in size from 55 m² to 250 m². The interior design of the apartments has been created by ARGUS Studio interior architects, whose notable projects include Park Hotel Viljandi as well as the Estonian embassies in London and Paris. Apartment sales have already begun, and interest in the distinctive concept of these living spaces has been exceptionally high.
The total volume of the new development is 37,000 m². The architectural design has been created by the award-winning Finnish architectural firm ALA Architects in collaboration with PIN Architects. The project is being developed by EBS together with Metro (Metro Capital OÜ).
Founded in 1988, EBS is the oldest university in the Baltics specialising in business education. EBS provides new knowledge and skills to 1,000 students at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in Helsinki and Tallinn. Additionally, 150 students study at the EBS High School. EBS actively invests in start-ups and research projects with start-up potential, collaborates closely with accelerators, and encourages its students to engage in entrepreneurship.
