The winners of EBS Alumni Golf 2016 were Anneli Esken and Janar Toomesso

The traditional Estonian Business School Alumni Golf took place on the Estonian Golf & Country club at Jõelähtme courses on St. Matthew´s Day (Madisepäev), the 21 September. This year it was held as a memorial of Madis Habakuk who passed away at the beginning of September. Mart Habakuk, a son of Madis, who won the competition in 2012, awarded the winner a challenge cup, Habakuk Cup that Madis contributed to EBS Alumni Golf in 2011.

The competition included two competition classes – handicap HCP up to 18.4 as a stroke play and HCP over 18.5 as a score play. HCP stroke play was won with a very good score -5 wins- one of the best women players of Estonian Golf & Country Club Anneli Esken, who was also lucky in the draw of lots after the competition and won a Classic women bike presented by Hawaii Express. The second place in HCP stroke play was won by Kristjan Kaleviste from Estonian Golf & Country Club who scored the course par with regard to his level of play.

The score game of Madis Habakuk Memorial was won by Rene Kuusing (EGCC), who had the second competition during his career i.e. he started with golf only this year! The second place was won by Tiit Orloff (EGCC) with 31 points, whereas he was also lucky in the draw of lots and won a valuable training voucher of EBS Executive Training Centre.

A special prize was awarded to the player who reached the best score of the day in stroke play, Janar Toomesso from Estonian Golf & Country Club, who has participated in the competition for several years. In addition to the score of 77 stokes and his name on Madis Habakuk Cup, he also won the competition “closest to the flag”on the 10th course of the Sea Course, which has been elected among the top 100 golf courses in Europe, with a special prize of Huawei smartphone.

One of the traditions of EBS Alumni Golf is that participants bring awards from their companies and all the participants leave with some memorabilia or new network contacts. We would like to thank all the competitors for their contributions, and Madis and Mart Habakuk, who have always supported EBS Alumni Golf. Madis did not have a chance to play golf a lot during his lifetime, but was always delighted by the aura and warmth of the EBS golf competition. Mart Habakuk said at the awarding ceremony that the memorial competition competition took place on St. Matthew´s Day, 21st September, accidentally and it should become a tradition in the future – all the following Habakuk Cup Memorials will take place on 21st September, named by the apostle and evangelist St. Matthew. This means that from now on St. Matthew´s Day will be the competition day of Habakuk Cup for the EBS alumni, collaboration partners and golf players whatever the weekday.

A good memory to the life and work of Madis Habakuk, that is marked by the Estonian Business School alumni and friends annually on the golf course.
