The Rector of EBS, Meelis Kitsing, congratulated the graduates and expressed recognition and gratitude for the students' years of active contribution to the EBS community. Kitsing emphasised that despite the very challenging and constantly changing global conditions, it is essential to keep the EBS motto "Community for Growth and Responsibility" in focus, where a crucial role is played by continuous collaboration, lifelong learning, and joint efforts in creating a better and more responsible entrepreneurial environment.
Meelis Kitsing: "In business, individual heroes are often noticed and recognised. People follow every word of Elon Musk and discuss Warren Buffett's investment decisions. However, all people are essentially social beings. They live in a social context and interact with others. In one way or another, they are part of communities where cooperation and joint efforts strengthen their individual endeavours and give meaning to their lives and work.
The strength of our EBS community lies in the personal and individual growth of each community member. Although the bonds within the EBS community are very important, our conscious goal is to build bridges between different communities in Estonia and globally. We achieve this by positioning EBS education, research, and business community as a forum where there is freedom and opportunity to express diverse views, share different experiences, practice and experiment, and consider different interests. EBS is uniquely positioned to provide relevant education lifelong, improving management practices based on the best available knowledge and research. Through the collaboration in teaching, business development, and research and development activities, all parties can thereby complement and strengthen each other."
In his speech to the ceremony guests and university graduates, Rector Meelis Kitsing highlighted the responsibility that comes with growth and freedom, the respect for others' freedom, and a responsible approach to freedoms. Meelis Kitsing: "In essence, responsibility means basic politeness, a quality that unfortunately seems to be increasingly forgotten in many university discussions, where the exercise of freedom of speech has led to uncertainty, suppression of learning and research opportunities, and sometimes even making graduation ceremonies impossible. In this broad global context, it is therefore a great privilege to be here today, to witness and celebrate the next step in the educational journey of EBS university graduates with a formal ceremony. Let us appreciate the choices and freedoms we have been given, our opportunity to be responsible. Once again – your individual contribution has made us stronger. Congratulations on your individual achievement!"
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Eva-Maria Müür, a graduate of the Bachelor of International Business Administration at EBS, began her speech with warm words of thanks and greetings to the lecturers, family members, friends, and the graduates of 2024. Eva-Maria recalled the first day at EBS and highlighted the knowledge and experiences gained from school over the years and the various challenges faced. But there were also times when passion and ambition were discovered, weaknesses were realised, and strengths were mapped. By following their values, building resilience, and following curiosity, today's university graduates aim not only for success and excellence but for continuous self-development and creating a positive impact. In a rapidly changing world, both adaptability and the ability to see endless possibilities are important. Eva-Maria encouraged the EBS community to approach their challenges, choices, and future with honesty, passion, and dedication.
Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Olesija Saue, an EBS alumna, addressed the graduates of 2024 with a call to be fully present in the moment and today – to notice the supportive people and like-minded individuals around them, to capture today's feelings, and to enjoy recognition and achievements. As they embark on their future journey and face various challenges, Olesija advised the graduates to always stay true to themselves. In summary: "Find your unique talent and uniqueness, know your weaknesses and strengths. Be aware of your values and what you are passionate about. Know your worth, and boldly set your boundaries and conditions if necessary. Dare to be authentic in everything, both in difficulties and success. You don't have to be perfect, but you have to be authentic! Believe that your people will follow you. You will be hired and collaborated with by those who appreciate you for who you are! And when this happens, unprecedented forces and passion will be unleashed, leading to the success defined by you!"
