For the last years, data has been considered as “the new oil” – it creates value when it is mined and analysed, it transforms and powers the information economy, and creates wealth for those who have and can use it. The ownership of data and the skills to use it to maximise its benefits have become the game changers in today’s society, reshaping the way we live, work, study, and play. The courses offer the opportunity to build a career or make further advancements in the field of data management. By the end of these courses, the student has an understanding how to manage databases, build relational database management systems using query language, how to analyse and visualise data using relevant programming language, and why data privacy, security and ethics are important topics to consider in the age of data and analytics.
Objective
The aim of these subjects is to address data management principles, practices and technologies, thus, focusing on the topics of database management and data protection. The courses provide the needed skills to manage organisation’s data in order to develop organisational approaches that both sustain and enhance the value of data. It is essential to know how to manage data to maximise its benefits.
These courses will cover the basic topics essential to understand the overall process of data management starting from designing the relevant database management system, forming the business question, analysing and visualising the data up to understanding the importance of data privacy, security and ethics.

- Cyber Security and Legal Aspects of Data Protection (3 ECTS) Lauri Almann, Toomas Seppel
The aim of the course is to form a comprehensive understanding why data protection and security should be part of business responsibilities in order to minimise the potential financial costs for non-compliance, loss of reputation or operations.
Upon completion of the course, the student:
- has knowledge of the legal aspects of data protection and terms of privacy within the European regulatory framework.
- understands the basic concepts of cyber security and overview of the cyber risk landscape.
- can discuss and evaluate the ethical and moral problems related to the use of data and its impact.
- Database Management (6 ECTS) Vladimir Mikhnovich
The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of data theory and database management systems, designing databases and using data models. Also, the theoretical part of the course is supported by doing hands-on tasks using query language, and performing research on the organization's database management process, systems and infrastructure.
Upon completion of the course, the student:
- knows basic terminology in the field of database management, state of modern database systems technology;
- knows and understands the practical use cases of different data models for database systems, their advantages and limitations;
- knows basics of SQL language and can use it for performing simple database queries;
- knows basic principles of data handling, cleaning and organizing (‘tidy data’). Understands concepts of data quality, integrity and security.
- Digital Project Management (6 ECTS) Diego Navarra
The objective of this course is to provide existing and future managers with the leading business practices that bring digital projects to successful implementation and fruition. The course is planned to take place in two parts. The first part of the course identifies the evolving strategic role of digital project managers. The second part covers more advanced topics of digital project management such as budgeting, monitoring, control and evaluation.

Objective

The goal of this course is to provide the business leader an overview of vistas in both established and new technologies for business. It is intended to be broad and generic but with sufficient insights provided from top-notch experts from both research and practice.
Most recently, adapting to technology has been a standard mandate for all professionals. Not only a good understanding of new technologies is relevant to business, but learning how to integrate into existing systems and leading the drive is of utmost significance for the business leader as we shift into the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This course provides that springboard to gain a deeper understanding of new and emerging technologies and how to integrate them into exiting and new enterprises from a managerial and governance perspective.
The objective of the course is to:

Digital is often the primary way of driving growth to all types of companies. Therefore, it is a must to understand the wide range of ways that digital can benefit organizations, starting with directly driving sales, boosting brand awareness, growing the new user base, re-engaging with already existing clients and so on. However, the first step in order to unlock digital is to understand the key trends that are happening at the moment: recent user behaviour, availability of free or paid products, rising topics in the advertising space and the key actions that various companies take in order to be successful online.
Upon completion of the course the student:
- will get an overview of the current digital marketing trends.
- will understand how consumer behaviour has changed over the past few years/months and what should be considered while doing digital marketing.
- will learn how any business, from the smallest to the largest ones, can establish an initial online presence with Google My Business platform.
- will understand in detail how to conduct market and product research using free Google tools like Google Trends, Audience Finder and others.
